This past weekend, the town of Edson lost a truly remarkable soul. The sadness felt across our community is immeasurable, as we come to terms with the devastating loss of Laura Proud (Huitema). She was one of Edson’s biggest advocates—always present, always giving, always lifting others up with her radiant spirit. On March 8, 2025, Laura’s life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a heartbroken community, grieving friends and family, and an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who loved her.
Laura was more than just a resident of Edson—she was a pillar of the community, a beacon of light, and a person whose kindness knew no limits. She gave selflessly, never seeking recognition but always ensuring those around her felt valued, supported, and loved. Whether she was organizing events, volunteering, or simply showing up when someone needed her, Laura embodied the very best of humanity.
A Devoted Wife and Loving Mother
Above all, Laura was a devoted wife to Tim and an adoring mother to their beautiful 5-year-old daughter, Azalea. Her love for them was evident in every aspect of her life. She poured her heart into their little family, creating a home filled with laughter, warmth, and joy. Tim and Azalea were her world, and every decision she made revolved around ensuring their happiness and well-being.
Now, in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, Tim and Azalea are left navigating a reality without her—a reality that seems too cruel, too unfair, and too impossible to bear. As a community, we stand with them, offering our support, our strength, and our unwavering love in their time of grief.
Laura had a heart that embraced everyone she met. She saw the good in people, lifted spirits with her infectious laughter, and made even the darkest days seem a little bit brighter. Her compassion, generosity, and kindness were the foundation of who she was. She left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross paths with her, and that impact will never fade. Her friends describe her as a light—a person who brought joy wherever she went, who never hesitated to lend a hand, and who truly made the world a better place. She never needed a reason to do something kind; it was simply who she was.
A Champion for the Edson Community
Laura was deeply involved in the Edson community, dedicating her time and energy to causes that mattered. Whether she was supporting local events, volunteering for initiatives that strengthened the town, or simply being a friend to those in need, Laura was always there. She cared deeply about the well-being of others, and her presence made Edson a better place for all. Her contributions were countless—her impact immeasurable. She was the kind of person who brought people together, who created meaningful connections, and who reminded us all of the power of kindness.
A Call to Support Tim and Azalea
With Laura’s sudden passing, her family now faces not only a profound emotional loss but also an overwhelming financial burden. The costs of funeral arrangements, immediate expenses, and the long-term needs of Azalea are significant, and as a community, we have the opportunity to help support Tim and their little girl.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for those who would like to contribute. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping Tim and Azalea as they navigate this difficult journey without Laura. If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep Laura’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Your kindness, love, and support mean more than words can express.
A Community in Mourning
The grief we feel as a community is immense, but in that grief, we also find unity. We come together not only to mourn the loss of Laura but to honor her life, her legacy, and the profound impact she had on all of us. To Tim and Azalea, we want you to know: you are not alone. The entire town of Edson stands beside you, ready to support you in whatever way you need. Laura was there for all of us, and now it’s our turn to be there for her family.
Losing Laura feels unbearable, but we find comfort in knowing that she lived a life full of love, generosity, and meaning. She made a difference. She mattered. And she will never be forgotten. Laura Proud (Huitema) may have been taken from us far too soon, but her light will never dim. It will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved her, in the community she cherished, and in the kindness she so effortlessly spread.
Rest in peace, Laura. You were truly one of a kind, and you will always be missed.
