A Life of Love and Dedication
Janet was born on December 31, 1970, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Janice Bates and Jimmy Gaunce. Growing up in Versailles, KY, Janet was surrounded by the love of her close-knit family, where she developed the values of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family bonds. From an early age, it was clear that Janet was destined to be a loving and dedicated individual. Her ability to form meaningful connections with others, paired with her witty sense of humor, left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She attended Woodford County High School, where she excelled both academically and in sports, and graduated in 1988. Janet went on to pursue her studies at Morehead State University, where she earned a degree in accounting in 1992. During her time at Morehead State, Janet became a standout athlete, playing college basketball and being an active member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Her dedication to both her studies and sports was a testament to her disciplined nature and her ability to balance all aspects of her life. Janet’s time at university shaped her into the determined and compassionate woman she would become, laying the foundation for a life full of love, faith, and family.
A Love Story for the Ages
In 2002, Janet moved to New Albany, Indiana, with her husband, Landon Caldwell, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their love story began many years earlier when they met and fell in love on a beautiful beach in Hawaii, where they were married. Their marriage was a testament to their deep connection and mutual admiration. Landon and Janet shared a bond that many people spend a lifetime seeking. It was a relationship rooted in trust, respect, and an enduring commitment to one another.
Together, Janet and Landon built a family centered on faith, love, and joy. Their home was filled with laughter, kindness, and warmth, and Janet’s caring and nurturing nature was evident in all aspects of her life. She was a constant source of love and encouragement, and her presence made everything feel brighter. Janet’s love for Landon was unmatched, and their partnership stood as an example of devotion and understanding.
A Devoted Mother
Janet’s greatest joy came from her role as a mother to her two children, Alexis and Dane. She embraced motherhood with boundless energy, love, and a sense of humor that made her a favorite among friends, family, and teammates alike. She became a mother in 2005 with the birth of her daughter, Alexis, followed by her son, Dane, in 2007. From the moment her children were born, Janet poured her heart and soul into raising them. She was fiercely supportive, always there to cheer them on at their sports games, concerts, and school events. No matter what they were involved in, Janet was their biggest fan.
Her children, Alexis and Dane, remember her as a constant source of love, laughter, and inspiration. Janet’s infectious spirit and passion for life were evident in everything she did, and she instilled in them the importance of kindness, humor, and always maintaining a positive outlook. One of her favorite sayings, “Be able to laugh at yourself. If not, life will be hard,” became both a personal mantra and a guiding principle for her family. Janet’s ability to find joy in the little things and to navigate life with laughter was something her children will carry with them always.
As a mother, Janet’s love was immeasurable. She gave selflessly to her children, ensuring they felt supported, loved, and valued at all times. She worked hard to provide them with every opportunity to grow and succeed, always offering a steady hand and a loving heart. Janet’s legacy as a mother is one of love, sacrifice, and inspiration, and her children will forever carry the lessons she taught them.
A Sister’s Love
Janet’s family was not limited to just her children and husband. She was a loving and supportive sister to her siblings. Janet was particularly close to her sister, Susan Godman (Lee), and shared an unbreakable bond with her. Janet was also the proud aunt to her niece and nephews—Drake, Ashbrooke, and Karter—and took great joy in being a part of their lives. She cherished her role as an aunt, always taking the time to offer love and guidance when needed.
Janet’s siblings and their families will remember her as the heart of the family—a person whose love and warmth brought everyone together. Her generosity, thoughtfulness, and the joy she brought to her family gatherings will be deeply missed. Janet’s family takes comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through the love she shared and the memories she left behind.
A Professional Life Dedicated to Excellence
After earning her accounting degree from Morehead State University, Janet began her professional career as a CPA for Crowe-Chizek in Lexington, KY. Her attention to detail and strong work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Later, she worked for Wetterer & Co. in Louisville, KY, after she and Landon moved to New Albany in 2002. Throughout her career, Janet maintained her commitment to excellence, building a reputation as a reliable, dedicated, and professional woman who approached every task with care and precision.
Despite her success in her professional life, Janet’s true fulfillment came from her family. She always prioritized her loved ones, and her work was always secondary to her devotion to her husband and children. Janet’s work ethic, however, remained steadfast, and she took great pride in contributing to her family’s well-being.
A Legacy of Love, Faith, and Gratitude
Janet’s family takes great comfort in knowing that she is now walking with Jesus, and they find peace in her faith. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering belief in God were an integral part of her life, and she passed these values on to her children. Janet’s legacy is one of love, faith, and joy, and her family will honor her by living out the lessons she taught them.
As the family navigates this difficult time, they are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from their community.
