With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Sebastian Szymanski. Yesterday, on what should have been a joyous celebration of his 23rd birthday, Sebastian was called home to be with Jesus. The weight of this loss is immeasurable, and the grief felt by his family, friends, and all who knew him is overwhelming.
Sebastian was the firstborn son of Chris and Chas Szymanski, and a beloved brother to Carter and Avery. His passing has left a void that words cannot fill, but the love and light he brought into this world will never be forgotten.
Chas, a cherished leader in our church and our Director of Finance and Administration, shared a moving tribute to her son:
“Sebastian, our firstborn. Today is the day you were born and the day that you left us to be with Jesus. Our hearts are simply shattered. I don’t know how to be a family of four… how to be without you. I will praise God every day of my life for each and every moment He gave us with you. You were an amazing son and brother and a fantastic man. We are beyond proud of you and eternally grateful that God entrusted you to us for 23 wonderful years. You were so loved by so many. There is a permanent hole in our hearts without you, buddy. Until we meet again, sweet boy.”
There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this loss, but in this time of mourning, we find solace in the memories, the impact, and the faith that Sebastian carried throughout his life.
Sebastian was more than a son, a brother, and a friend—he was a light in the lives of those around him. His kindness, intelligence, and unwavering faith set him apart. He had an infectious smile that could brighten even the darkest of days, and his heart overflowed with compassion and love.
From a young age, Sebastian was known for his curiosity and determination. Whether it was academics, sports, or his personal relationships, he approached every challenge with strength and perseverance. Those who knew him will always remember his kind spirit, his strong moral character, and his ability to make others feel valued and loved.
He had a deep love for his family, cherishing every moment spent together. His siblings, Carter and Avery, adored him, and his role as a big brother was one he took seriously. His parents were his greatest supporters, and the love they shared was evident to all who knew them.
Sebastian’s life, though far too short, was one of purpose and meaning. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness—one that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain, and the grief is unbearable for the Szymanski family. There are no words strong enough to ease their suffering, but as a community, we stand with them in love, support, and prayer.
We may never fully understand why Sebastian was taken so soon, but we trust in God’s plan, even when it is difficult to comprehend. We hold on to the promise of eternal life, of reunion, of hope, and we pray that in the midst of this darkness, the Szymanski family can find some light through faith and love. Sebastian’s time on this earth was far too short, but his impact will never fade. He touched so many lives, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
While today is filled with pain and grief, it is also a day to remember the joy and love that Sebastian brought into this world. His light has not been extinguished—it shines on in the love he gave, the faith he held, and the people he touched.
To the Szymanski family, we mourn with you, we stand with you, and we love you. May God wrap His arms around you, bring you comfort, and give you the strength to endure the days ahead.
Until we meet again, Sebastian.
